As we enter Game 3 of the Eastern Conference we have the Tampa Bay Lightning with two straight losses against the Washington Capitals. After losing both of their Home game advantages they travel to Washington for Game 3.
What happened to the Lightning?
If you are just tuning into the Stanley Cup you may not understand what this article is about. However, if you watched any of the previous games you know that this is not the same Lightning team that we watched play. In Round two of the Stanley Cup the Lightning beat the Boston Bruins 4 games to 1. They were able to make plays, block shots and more importantly make shots on goal. In round two the Lightning racked up 130 shots on goal for an average of 26 shots a game off just 5 games total.
Outside of getting plays together we also need to look at Andrei Vasilevskiy who has given up 10 goals in the last two games. We saw the Lightning pull Andrei Vasilevskiy in game one however after allowing 4 points against the Capitals. Then in game two they made the decision to leave him in as he allowed 6 goals. As we enter game 3 you have to wonder if Andrei Vasilevskiy will start, If he does start (unsure that is a good idea) you can guarantee that he will be watched very carefully. He could be starting the game with an average of 6 allowed points a game, not good!
There is one stat that the Lightning has going in their favor, away game victories. Throughout the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs the Lightning have not lost a single away game. However, they have also not started a series in the Stanley Cup with a two-loss deficit. Their future is in their hands and it’s up to them to take control.
One thing we know for sure at the end of the day, the Lightning we will either continue their streak of away game victories or they will continue on the Game 4. Which could be the end of the road on a very promising season.
